Memorial Day here was a beautiful day- an opportunity to try a little more still-life.
The lilacs in front of our house are just gorgeous this year and I thought it might be fun to try a little shooting on the "A" setting. My personal favorite? As small an aperture as I can get! And then I got some not-so-still-life... my son at the Memorial Day parade.
I'm not super-interested in still-life photography but after telling my sister about the new clothesline my wonderful husband put up, she suggested a photo shoot. I was just happy to have a place to hang diapers- I never thought of it as a photo project!
Put a little boy in a baseball shirt, give him a reason to clap, and you've got a precious photo opportunity! Add in some jeans and bare toes and the possibilities seem almost endless. To me, these are reminescent of simpler times- running barefoot was great entertainment and baseball and apple pie were the basic fabric of America. Kind of like the 50's... I suppose that's why shooting in sepia seemed just about perfect!
These 2-month photos happened in two separate shoots- that's what happens when you have a baby AND a toddler!! Even though it took a little longer to do Madison's photos than I had planned (due mostly to having my husband out of the state for work for about 5 weeks, various other projects and whatnot) I have to say that I'm happy with how they turned out. The second attempt found her much more cooperative (the first photo is from the first shoot, the other two are from the second) so I was able to get plenty of photos to work with. I love the way her lashes are accentuated in the close-ups... yes, they're that long in real life!
After several attempts on several different days to get some 18-month photos of this little guy, we finally got it! It was a fun shoot, and there were plenty of giggles. This one was unintentional, but when I saw it while I was previewing the shots, I fell in love with it. It's one of my favorites!
i'm a full-time mom with a passion for capturing everyday moments on my trusty olympus (or canon). my latest adventure is cloth diapering both kids and attempting to make a little extra money by sewing and crocheting baby slings. trust me, it's much less old-lady-ish than it sounds! oh, and i love a good laugh now and then. and chocolate. sometimes it's my best friend.
There are so many moments and events that make up our lives, and sometimes it's the smallest, most simple points in time that are the most special. Maybe we can't put time in a bottle, but we can print it and frame it! Infant/children, family, graduation, engagement, anniversary, even a wedding or two, I'm interested in all aspects. My goal is to not only preserve special moments for others, but to broaden my own horizons as well. Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions or for more information! (Constructive criticism is welcome too)
